Dear Visitors:
Federal funding for this website ended in 2003, therefore few materials have been added since that time. Fortunately, there is continued interest in culturally and appropriate materials, curriculum, and programs. Because of this, we have allowed this site to remain as an archive. Bilingual Vocabulary Assessment Measure

Mattes, L. J. (1995). Bilingual Vocabulary Assessment Measure. Oceanside, CA: Academic Communication Associates.

Summary
This criterion-referenced, curriculum-based instrument is developed for initial screening of the child's bilingual knowledge of basic vocabulary through picture labeling. The tool can be used with children three years and up. Vocabulary for the test items is listed in the manual in English, Spanish, French and Italian languages. A Vietnamese/English record form is also available for order separately.

Tasks are administered directly with the target child, preferably by a native language speaker.

Children who speak English as a second language are often referred for assessment because of poor communication skills. It is important to know that children are identified as having language disorders only when the language problems exhibit in both their primary language and English.
