Covering the developmental progress of children's functional skills in six key domains (fine motor, gross motor, adaptive, cognitive, social-communication, and social development), the Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System (AEPS) Measurement for Birth to Three Years is designed to help early interventionists improve their assessments of the abilities and needs of young children who have disabilities or are at risk for developmental delays. Section 1 provides a comprehensive description of the Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System. Section 2 presents the AEPS Test items composed of the six domains that cover the developmental period from 1 month to 3 years. Section 3 describes how to involve families in the assessment and evaluation process as well as how to provide specific strategies and forms for doing so. Volume 1 also provides useful appendices to assist in the implementation of the AEPS. Appendix A contains summarized psychometric information on the reliability and effectiveness of the AEPS Tests that has been collected since the early 1980s. Appendix B contains a series of Individualized Education Program/Individualized Family Service Plan goals and objectives specifically related to each item on the AEPS Test. Appendix C contains a set of assessment activity plans. The last appendix contains examples of recording forms.
